Hi Boys,
Here are some important reminders:
1. Please get your parent to fill in the Application for Withdrawal of Funds from Edusave Account form (purple form), and submit it together with the orange form and cash/cheque of $25 by tomorrow, 14 February.
2. Please bring your examination pad to school tomorrow if you have not done so.
3. Please note that there is NO Spelling/Dictation test on Friday, 15 February.
4. Please note that the AMODES-Listening Comprehension will be conducted on Friday, 15 February.
Some of you may be wondering how the test will be conducted. The format is exactly the same as what we have done in class; Practice 1 & 2. Basically it is a listening test so you can't really study or prepare for it. But I do have some tips for you with regards to Note-taking and Dictation.
Note-taking:
1. Refrain from writing down the answers the first time you hear the passage being read to you. Instead, listen carefully and take note of the specific information you need to retrieve as you listen to the passage again.
2. As you listen to the passage being read out the second time, write down the required information. Be precise and accurate. Take special note of proper nouns which require you to capitalise the first letter of the word(s).
3. In the event you are not sure of how to spell a particular word, try your best to write it out as it sounds.
Dictation:
1. Refrain from writing down anything the first time you hear the passage being read to you. You need to know the gist of the passage.
2. As you listen to the passage being read out the second time, write down the words as best as you can.
3. In the event you are not sure of how to spell a particular word, try your best to write it out as it sounds. If you really encounter a foreign word, do not waste time trying to figure out its spelling. Instead, move on and write the other words you know. It is wiser to lose half a mark because of one mis-spelt word than to lose many more because of words being left out.
4. Remember to punctuate the sentences accordingly.
Lastly, Boys, I really need your help and cooperation! I have not recovered fully from my sore throat. I had thought the CNY holiday might help. But after school today, the pain in my throat has intensified and I am on the verge of losing my voice completely! If the latter were to happen, I would be forced to stay at home to recuperate in order to regain my voice.
When that happens, precious curriculum time would be forfeited! And that is exactly what I dread and fear!
Sooo...please cooperate with me! Do give me your 101% attention when I conduct my lesson. By that I mean you need to see with your
and listen with your
I do welcome active whole-class participation and discussion, and I appreciate your intelligent answers to my questions. Likewise, I appreciate you asking questions which sometimes demonstrates your higher level of thinking which in turn gives me the opportunity to consider an alternative perspective.
We have 4 more weeks to go before Term 1 ends. Let's make a pact to make things work ok?! I think God puts me in 3Joy for a purpose so I am willing to give all that I can to do His work. So you Boys must help me ok?!
Have a good evening and see you all tomorrow!
Cheers,
Mrs Tan
