Are you studying hard for your important test tomorrow? Ok let me test you! What is the adjective and adverb in my first sentence?
BINGO! Well done! Do remember:
1. Adjectives describe nouns, allowing us to talk about how things, people and places look and feel. Thus adjectives and nouns are 'good friends'. An adjective is commonly placed in front of a noun within a sentence. But it can also occur after the verb be.
Eg. Amos is hardworking.
2. Types of adjectives:
*size - huge skyscraper
*colour - blue car
*shape - round face
*age - old keyboard
*opinion - delicious cupcakes
*origin - Australian apples
*material - wooden chair
3. Adverbs give us additional information about an event or action. Thus adverbs and verbs are 'good friends'. An adverb of manner usually occurs after a verb. It helps us to answer the question 'How is/was an action being carried out?'.
Eg. How did your father drive into the garage?
My father drove carefully into the garage.
There will be two sections for the test tomorrow:
*Part A: You are to identify, and underline an adjective in every given sentence.
*Part B: you are to select the most appropriate adverb (from a set of adverbs) to describe an action depicted in every given sentence.
All the best for your test tomorrow!
Cheers,
Mrs Tan
